El presente volumen recoge dieciocho contribuciones relativas a la circulación e influencias entre los paradigmas teatrales en los tres países de la Europa moderna que cuentan con los mayores intercambios en este ámbito cultural específico: Italia, España y Francia, en los siglos XVI, XVII y XVIII. El amplio arco geográfico y temporal en que se sitúan los estudios de «movilidad textual» aquí reunidos y la multiplicidad de sus enfoques dan cuenta de la vivacidad de los estudios comparados y de su adecuación a una materia tan proteiforme como es el teatro, en constante evolución en el periodo y la era espacial contemplados. Si bien los estudios actuales ya no abordan como los positivistas de antaño la identificación de las fuentes, o el estudio de la fortuna de tal o cual obra en el extranjero, siguen imprescindibles, pacientes y detalladas encuestas para reconstruir filiaciones y genealogías y de esta forma dibujar mejor el mapa del teatro europeo de la Modernidad temprana.

Et c'est autour de cette édition et des problèmes d'établissement et d'interprétation de ce grand texte qu'ont tourné les débats et les communications ici reproduits. Il s'agit là, pour tous les préparateurs et candidats aux concours de recrutement, d'un indispensable instrument de travail, élaboré avec la collaboration de quelques uns des meilleurs spécialistes du moment : Robert Jammes, bien sûr, mais aussi Antonio Carreira, Nadine Ly, Joaquín Roses, Saiko Yoshida, Marie-Claire Zimmermann.
Texto inédito del P. Valentín de Céspedes s. j. (1595-1668), el Trece por docena es una contundente y áspera respuesta a la Censura de la elocuencia publicada en 1648 por otro jesuíta, el P. José de Ormaza. Esta controversia, en la que también terció Ambrosio Bondía, entra de lleno en la práctica concreta de los predicadores y los problemas cotidianos con los que se enfrentaban en la elaboración de sus sermones: dónde encontrar sus materiales, cómo utilizarlos, qué importancia debe otorgarse a lugares y autoridades, cómo plantear las cuestiones para probar los asuntos, qué son los conceptos y qué utilidad puede tener el estilo conceptuoso, cuáles son los límites de la actio, etc. Pero más allá del debate sobre la oratoria que Céspedes desarrolla con punzante ironía y constante buen humor, el Trece por docena aborda también desde una perspectiva distinta algunas de las cuestiones básicas de la literatura de su época: los límites de la retórica y la adecuación del estilo lacónico al discurso, la teatralidad del predicador como «comediante a lo divino», y, sobre todo, la problemática del conceptismo, la agudeza y el ingenio.
