Le sort d'une métropole se joue en partie dans ses relations avec l'extérieur. Telle est l'idée que met à l'épreuve cet ouvrage. En une douzaine de contributions, on se propose de montrer comment, aux époques médiévale et moderne, la ville de Lyon fut aussi construite dans l'échange avec des villes qui étaient tout à la fois ses partenaires, ses concurrentes et le miroir de ses propres mutations. De multiples acteurs hommes d'Église et gens du roi, marchands et financiers, peintres et poètes de passage, chroniqueurs éloignés dans l'espace et dans le temps ont façonné la ville et son image. Les matériaux variés qui permettent d'en rendre compte proviennent souvent d'archives de villes ayant entretenu des relations étroites avec Lyon : la correspondance des marchands d'Augsbourg et de Nuremberg, les livres de compte de la compagnie florentine Salviati retrouvés à Pise, les documents du Castillan Simón Ruíz conservés à Valladolid. Les bibliothèques et les musées d'Europe livrent aussi des témoignages littéraires et iconographiques qui restituent fût-ce de façon partielle une autre image de Lyon. L'enquête n'oublie pas le regard des Grenoblois, contrariés parfois par leur puissante voisine ! L'autocélébration, en tout cas, est d'autant moins de mise dans tous ces documents que les points de vue externes sur l'histoire de Lyon ont été privilégiés par des auteurs venus d'horizons très variés. This book is the product of an eponymous workshop, which took place in Erfurt in May, 2012, and which has since then been supplemented with four further contributions. The topics focus on the potential mapping of perceived urban space and spatial hierarchies as a consequence of social usage (undertaken by a variety of active participants) together with spatio-temporal changes as a result of factors such as demographic urban growth and decline. Historians, cartographers and geographers are brought together to present and discuss different models, ideas and new methods of spatial analysis and modes of representing changes in perceptions. The two main subjects are: the epistemology of spatial change and the question of (historical) media and adequate presentation. This work represents a first step toward the development of a new model for mapping urban changes and spatial relations concerning the past, present and future.
Chalcopyrites, in particular those with a wide band gap, are fascinating materials in terms of their technological potential in the next generation of thin-film solar cells and in terms of their basic material properties. They exhibit uniquely low defect formation energies, leading to unusual doping and phase behavior and to extremely benign grain boundaries. This book collects articles on a number of those basic material properties of wide-gap chalcopyrites, comparing them to their low-gap cousins. They explore the doping of the materials, the electronic structure and the transport through interfaces and grain boundaries, the formation of the electric field in a solar cell, the mechanisms and suppression of recombination, the role of inhomogeneities, and the technological role of wide-gap chalcopyrites.
